Sensory-informed design
The first point of any learning or recovery is to feel safe - the environment shapes how safe we feel.
We support teams to shape sensory-informed environments that reduce stress, support healing, and feel calm, safe and genuinely comfortable for the people who use them.
How we help
We work hand in hand with you to create environments that feel safe, calm and responsive to the people who use them — particularly those with sensory needs, autism or a learning disability.
We work across healthcare, education and residential settings to bring sensory-informed thinking into everyday spaces. Whether you’re redesigning a community clinic, planning improvements to a mental health ward, or co-producing a bespoke home, we help shape spaces that support wellbeing.
From concept to completion, we help you create environments that feel calm and comfortable for everyone.
Sensory-Informed Design in Practice
The Brook: an award-winning mental health inpatient unit in Dawlish, demonstrates how sensory-informed design can be applied in practice.
Working as part of the wider design team alongside Devon Partnership NHS Trust, the project brought together clinical insight, lived experience, and environmental design to create a space that feels calm, safe and non-institutional.
The learning from The Brook now informs how we support teams to apply sensory-informed design in new and existing environments.
